Dresser Changer vs Chest Changer: Which Nursery Storage Suits You?

The real difference is width, not just drawer count

Both a dresser changer and a chest changer give you a dedicated changing surface with drawers underneath. The practical split comes down to footprint and how you organise the space around the changing top. A dresser changer is typically wider, with drawers laid out side by side. A chest changer is narrower and often taller, with drawers stacked vertically.

That difference affects where the unit fits, how much room you have beside the changing area for wipes and nappies, and how the piece works once the changing top comes off. The two products below show the contrast clearly: the CuddleCo Clara Wide 6 Draw Dresser Changer is a wide six-drawer unit, while the Tutti Bambini Hallee Chest Changer is a more compact chest with a removable changer top and practical compartments.

CuddleCo Clara: wide storage for a dedicated nursery

• CuddleCo Clara Wide 6 Draw Dresser Changer - White/Ash: Six spacious drawers with a removable changing top. A wide drawer layout gives you room to separate clothing, nappies and bedding without stacking everything in one column.

• CuddleCo Clara Wide 6 Draw Dresser Changer - White/Ash: When your baby outgrows the changing area, the dresser transitions into a standalone unit for bedrooms or nurseries. The changing function is temporary, but the storage stays useful long after nappies are done.
• CuddleCo Clara Wide 6 Draw Dresser Changer - White/Ash: Classic finish pairs with the Clara furniture range or can be used on its own. Useful if you are building a matching nursery set or buying one piece at a time.

Tutti Bambini Hallee: compact chest with compartments

• Tutti Bambini Hallee Chest Changer - Mushroom/Golden Oak: Removable changer top with practical compartments for nappies, wipes and baby essentials. Dedicated compartments keep change-time items within reach without using drawer space.

• Tutti Bambini Hallee Chest Changer - Mushroom/Golden Oak: Spacious drawers for clothing and essentials, with sturdy, gently angled legs. A narrower footprint with vertical storage can suit smaller nurseries or shared rooms.
• Tutti Bambini Hallee Chest Changer - Mushroom/Golden Oak: Remove the changer to reveal a chest of drawers for bedrooms, playrooms or any home space. The chest keeps working as your child grows and the room changes use.

How the two layouts compare for daily changes

• Space beside the changing top: The Clara's six wide drawers give you a broad unit, so check the wall space and walking room around it. The Hallee's changer top has built-in compartments, which can reduce the need for extra pots or baskets on top.
• Drawer organisation: Six side-by-side drawers on the Clara suit folding clothes and separating sizes. The Hallee's stacked drawers and top compartments suit a simpler nappy-and-vest setup in a tighter room.
• What happens after the changing stage: Both tops are removable. The Clara becomes a standalone six-drawer dresser; the Hallee becomes a chest of drawers. The better choice depends on which shape of storage your home needs later.
• Style and finish: The Clara comes in white/ash and can pair with the wider Clara range. The Hallee comes in mushroom/golden oak with gently angled legs, which may suit a warmer or more traditional room.

What the supplied information does not confirm

The supplied records do not include dimensions, weight limits, changing mat compatibility, assembly instructions or care instructions for either unit. That means you cannot use this guide to confirm whether a particular changing mat will fit the top, how much weight the changer surface supports, or whether the finish needs specific cleaning products. Check those details on the product page or with the retailer before buying, especially if you have a narrow space or an existing mat you want to reuse.

Neither record lists a fixed age or size range for the changing top. The removable tops are described as transitioning to standalone storage once your baby outgrows the changing stage, but the records do not specify when that is. Treat the changing function as a temporary phase and choose the unit for the storage you will need afterwards.

Decision rules for your nursery

• Choose the CuddleCo Clara if you have a wide, dedicated nursery wall: Six spacious drawers and a broad dresser layout give you room to organise clothing and nappies side by side. It suits a room where the unit can stay as a standalone dresser later.
• Choose the Tutti Bambini Hallee if you need a narrower footprint with built-in compartments: The removable top with practical compartments keeps change-time essentials close, and the chest shape works in smaller rooms or shared spaces.
• Measure first, then decide: Because dimensions are not supplied here, measure your available floor space and the height you want for changing before choosing. A wide dresser and a tall chest can both work, but only one will fit your room.
